Bachelor of Arts (Honours) - Philosophy (V500) at The University of Sheffield: Tuition Fee: £20,000.00 GBP / Year (Scholarship Available)

Program Description

In this degree, students explore a range of fascinating and fundamental philosophical topics, with subjects as diverse as politics, ethics, and mathematics, and issues from the nature of the mind to the value of art. Students will also study thinkers from across philosophical traditions - including analytic, continental, pragmatist, and Chinese philosophy - as well as culturally important texts.

Thinking philosophically requires a distinctive combination of imagination and exact reasoning. Students will develop these skills by studying a wide variety of modules. Philosophy at Sheffield is highly flexible, and there are no compulsory modules.

In the first year, students will combine modules from across two groups: one which focuses on metaphysics, knowledge, and logic, and the other on ethics, politics, and religion.

In the second and third years, students will continue to design their own pathways, choosing from a wide range of modules that enable them to tailor their degrees to their own interests. The University of Sheffield's experienced faculty provide students advice on the best way to structure their options.

Over the three years, students can develop their understanding of key areas including ethics, philosophy of mind, theory of knowledge, political philosophy, metaphysics and logic, as well as feminism, philosophy of education, and major figures in the history of philosophy. There are also individual project and work placement modules that allow students to pursue highly personal supervised study in areas of their choosing.
