Majoring in Legal Studies will provide students with a sound understanding of the Australian Legal System and its court structure. Students will learn key aspects of private law in Australia, including principles of the law of contract and torts, and be able to critically examine the relationship between law and justice. This flexible major allows students to create a degree around their interests by combining Legal Studies with other study areas.

The Legal Studies major is not available to students enrolled in the Bachelor of Arts - Bachelor of Laws degree.

This major consists of four core subjects with a broad range of elective options, including family law, international business law and taxation law. In their final year students will undertake a Law Research Project where they will work with a supervisor on a research topic to produce a thesis addressing real-world issues, using knowledge and skills obtained in the Legal Studies major.

In addition to the Legal Studies major students will choose a minor or a second major from the Faculty of Law, Humanities and the Arts offerings.

  • Minimum Level of Education Required: Grade 12 / High School
  • Min GPA: 50.0% 
  • English Proficiency Requirements:
    For direct admission, applicant must be from an English speaking country or meet either of the following English test scores:
    • Min TOEFL iBT: 86 (Min Listening: 17.0, Min Reading: 18.0, Min Speaking: 17.0, Min Writing: 18.0)
    • Min IELTS overall: 6.5 (Min Listening: 6.0, Min Reading: 6.0, Min Speaking: 6.0, Min Writing: 6.0)
    • Min Duolingo English Test Score: 115
    • Min PTE overall: 62 (Min Listening: 54, Min Reading: 54, Min Speaking: 54, Min Writing: 54)
    For conditional admission, you are required to provide English proficiency scores:
    • Min TOEFL iBT: 32
    • Min IELTS overall: 4.5 (Min Reading: 4, Min Writing: 4)
    • Min Duolingo English Test Score: 65
