The design of any machine – from a skateboard to a jet engine – for optimal performance cannot be separated from the materials used to make it. This challenging Mechanical and Materials Engineering BEng program combines the design skills of mechanical engineering with the in-depth knowledge of materials engineering, so that, on graduation, students are able to create innovative and cutting-edge designs, which make the best use of materials.

Students will be taught by lecturers who are global experts in their field, enabling them to gain strong theoretical and practical skills in Mechanical and Materials Engineering. The university's leading-edge teaching facilities and laboratories will enhance the learning experience, and project work will provide students with vital employability skills that will give them a competitive edge in applications forms, interviews and assessment tests for graduate jobs.

There is an opportunity to apply for a year in industry during the degree, this usually occurs between year 2 and year 3. Students will be helped to find suitable internships, and assisted and mentored by academic members of staff throughout the year in industry.
