Approximately 325 first-year students join the Health Sciences program each fall and take a common set of first-year courses that introduce them to the diverse areas of health that impact people around the globe. These courses, in addition to a series of electives, help students identify areas of interest before selecting a module/specialization prior to entering second year. First year Courses include Personal Determinants of Health, Social Determinants of Health, Determinants of Resilience and Wellbeing, and Biology for Science.
The Honours Specialization in Health Sciences with Biology is designed for students who want to combine the socio-cultural perspectives on health offered in Health Sciences courses with the life sciences (Chemistry, Biochemistry and Biology). This module is ideal for students who want to pursue careers in medicine and dentistry. Approximately half of the module’s courses cover key Health Sciences topics such as health ethics, health promotion, childhood and adolescent health, health in aging populations, and anatomy. The other half of the module is made up of core life sciences courses, covering topics such as organic chemistry, biochemistry, and genetics.

NOTE: Please note the English scores listed are minimum requirements. Meeting the minimums does not guarantee admission. Students with low English scores may be admitted to the English BOOST Program, a 9 week training program for conditional admission to their chosen program.
