The Department of Geography offers a major program with three options in geography leading to the Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree, minor programs in general geography and geographic information science, a certificate in geographic information systems, coursework applicable to general education components in all programs, and coursework contributory to other curricula, including the programs for the preparation of elementary and secondary teachers offered through the College of Education and Human Sciences.

The General Geography degree is designed to serve students interested in careers in government, business, and industry as geographers and cartographers or in teaching geography or social studies in the elementary, middle, junior or high school. This program prepares students for graduate studies within geography and education.

Admission Requirements

  • Minimum Level of Education Required: Grade 12 / High School
  • Min GPA: 60.0% 
  • English Proficiency Requirements:
    For direct admission, applicant must be from an English speaking country or meet either of the following English test scores:
    • Min TOEFL iBT: 61
    • Min IELTS overall: 5.5
    • Min Duolingo English Test Score: 90
    • Min PTE overall: 46
    Applicants interested in applying for direct admission, but are yet to complete an acceptable language test, can do so, but must provide valid results before receiving a final offer letter.
    For conditional admission, instead of submitting language proficiency test scores, applicants may complete English courses prior to the academic program. The length of the English course is determined based on the applicant's level of English proficiency.
