The English Language Preparation program is a chance to improve your English language skills before beginning your pathway program. Applicants who obtain Academic IELTS for UKVI 5.0 overall (5.0 in all subskills including listening), will study the 1-Semester Pathway programme. Applicants who do not meet the 1-Semester Pathway programme IELTS requirements will be placed in the 2-Semester Pathway English language preparation course, so long as they have an overall IELTS score of 4.5 (4.5 in all subskills). Once the applicant completes the course, they may start the international year one.

This program consists of a pathway program offered by StudyGroup at the International Study Centre at the University of Sussex followed by entry into a university program offered at the University of Sussex. In the International Year One programme, you will study courses related to your intended field of study alongside English to develop and enhance your skills as a student. Advancement into your intended program depends upon the successful completion of the pathway program.

International Year One in Computing is the first step in your journey to a variety of Computer Science and Computing degrees at the University of Sussex. During your studies, you will explore a range of modules and subjects relevant to your chosen progression degree. Topics include algorithmic thinking, data structures with Java, computer systems, programming, maths and multimedia.

Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence at Sussex explores the scientific basis of intelligence in animals and machines. You’ll look at:
  • the fundamentals of computer science
  • the principles of adaptive behaviour and intelligent systems
  • applications including robotics and text mining.
You’ll study in our £12-million Future Technologies Labs, which include a student-focused hub, teaching labs with suites of high-spec computers, and project workspaces.

You can shape your degree to suit your interests, specialising either in technology or in cognitive science – the interdisciplinary study of intelligence and mind.
