The College of Pharmacy offers rigorous programs of study leading to advanced degrees in professional pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences. Entering freshmen who wish to pursue a pharmacy degree and who fulfill the requirements for admission into the university will be accepted into the pre-pharmacy program of study.
Pre-Pharmacy
The pre-pharmacy program at USC is an intense two-year undergraduate education that includes courses in life sciences, mathematics, social sciences and liberal arts. The program, designed by the USC College of Pharmacy, is an adept foundation for the rigorous Pharm.D. professional degree or the optional Pharmaceutical Sciences bachelor's degree program.
Bachelor of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences
The bachelor's degree in pharmaceutical sciences is an optional degree available from the University of South Carolina College of Pharmacy. Pharm.D. students who have completed pre-pharmacy coursework and the first two years of the professional program can earn the bachelor’s degree. The program, which combines core and laboratory-based coursework, instills the knowledge and skills of a well-rounded and well-educated scientist.
While you cannot practice the profession of pharmacy with a bachelor's degree in pharmaceutical sciences, the degree is helpful for students interested in pursuing graduate school or who simply want to possess a four-year degree should they decide to not continue their Pharm.D. coursework.
Pham. D
The University of South Carolina College of Pharmacy's Pharm.D. program is a rigorous full-time, six-year professional degree program and it prepares highly qualified graduates who enter the workforce readily in both traditional and nontraditional pharmacy practice settings. Over six academic years (two years of pre-pharmacy and four years of Pharm.D.), students complete a total of 215 hours of coursework while gaining introductory and advanced practice experience in a variety of pharmacy settings.
