University of Reading's BSc Animal Science with Foundation is a four-year programme that includes a year of foundational study and leads directly into the three-year course.
Animal science focuses on the scientific disciplines that underpin the management of productive, captive and companion animals. These include physiology, reproduction, nutrition, health, behaviour and welfare. Through a variety of teaching methods, you will not only acquire specialist knowledge and key laboratory skills, but also skills in team working, problem-solving, numeracy, data handling and statistical analysis, all of which are skills that are highly regarded by employers.
Students will complete an 80-hour mini work-placement as part of their degree and, in addition, have the option of taking a year-long work placement which provides a key opportunity to gain an in-depth insight into an animal industry career. Students will benefit from Reading's links with the animal science community, including leading organizations and companies, and Reading has a dedicated member of staff providing support and advice on suitable placements.
