Preparing environmental policy and management professionals, the nationally recognized BA in Environmental Science program integrates policy, management, and law with the natural sciences. Students gain practical experiences at the intersection of science and policy through coursework and real-world problem-solving in a senior capstone course, internships, research, and cooperative education programs. Majors may focus their studies on policy and management (Policy and Management Track), policy-earth systems (Earth and Hydrologic Science Track), and policy-marine systems (Marine Science Track).
After completing the requirements in the BA in environmental science, students will have a firm grounding in how science shapes environmental policy and management. They will have the critical thinking skills necessary to inform environmental decision-making, how to communicate complexity and shape policy, and how to advance new management strategies in support of a sustainable future.
BA Environmental Science alumni leverage their deep understanding of the environmental policy-science interface to support the development and implementation of policies, regulations, and laws that conserve and protect the natural world while ensuring sustainable use of natural resources. Alumni are employed by government agencies as policy analysts and data scientists, in state and federal legislatures as legal analysts, in private business as regulatory specialists, and in nonprofits as environmental policy advocates, and organizations, businesses, and nonprofits. Alumni are also well positioned for graduate studies and professional studies such as law school.
