The Undergraduate UMass Boston Navitas GSSP is the first year of a bachelor’s degree program at UMass Boston. The Navitas GSSP consists of for-credit coursework and provides an academic and cultural bridge from the high school experience to studying at a university in the United States. When students successfully complete the UMass Boston Navitas GSSP, they will progress directly into the second year of their undergraduate degree program.

The University of Massachusetts Boston's Department of Modern Languages, Literatures, and Cultures offers a diverse and engaging curriculum, with courses focusing on language, literary, cultural, and film studies. The well-rounded faculty, made up of prolific scholars and dedicated teachers, is committed to creating a strong community of language learners, critical thinkers, and responsible global citizens, who are well prepared for the professional demands of today’s global markets. 

The Italian section of the Modern Languages, Literatures, and Cultures Department offers courses in Italian language, literature, culture, and history.

A background in Modern Languages opens many doors for its graduates. The career paths some students have taken have lead them in a variety of different directions. Some graduates of the department have gone on to complete MA and PhD work and currently teach in high schools and colleges. Others work in fields like business, banking or travel where their expertise in language and culture is a definite asset. A few have become translators or interpreters, and some have discovered unexpected career paths: professional chef and clothing designer, for instance. Many students combine a language major with majors in business, economics and anthropology.
