Undergraduate GSSP - Science and Mathematics (3-Semester Pathway) Transfer to UMASS Boston Bachelor of Science - Mathematics at University of Massachusetts Boston (UMass): Tuition Fee: $34,323.00 USD / Year (Scholarship Available)

The Undergraduate UMass Boston Navitas GSSP is the first year of a bachelor’s degree program at UMass Boston. The Navitas GSSP consists of for-credit coursework and provides an academic and cultural bridge from the high school experience to studying at a university in the United States. When students successfully complete the UMass Boston Navitas GSSP, they will progress directly into the second year of their undergraduate degree program.

The University of Massachusetts Boston offers undergraduate programs leading to a Bachelor of Science or a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Mathematics. The current major consists of a sequence of lower-level courses that lay the foundation in algebra and analysis. They are followed by a judicious spread of required upper-level courses and then the major is topped off with the student choosing four electives at the upper-division level. The mathematics major also needs to take two Physics courses and a course in introductory computer programming. Popular double majors for students with interests both in mathematics and in other fields include Mathematics/Computer Science and Mathematics/Physics. A degree in mathematics provides students with strong portable skills that will give them a competitive edge in virtually any career.

Upon graduation, students will be able to:

  • Exhibit sound understanding of what is asked, claimed, assumed, or conjectured.
  • Make clear and precise definitions and establishing consistent notation.
  • Present a logical, consistent flow of ideas in developing a proof or constructing an example.
  • Handle abstraction effectively.
  • Ensure completeness in argumentation, analysis, and classification.
  • Show an appreciation for and basic familiarity with major mathematical structures and concepts and their uses, e.g. vector spaces, linear and non-linear maps, groups, rings, fields, topologies, continuity, completeness, convergence, limits, sets and cardinals, logic, probabilities, independence, laws of large numbers, regression, approximation, numerics, dimension, measure, calculus and differential equations, curves and surfaces, etc.
