Psychology is a diverse field, united by the common goals of understanding how people think and behave and how various environmental and biological forces shape behavior. Cognitive scientists study how people perceive, learn, remember, think and understand. Behavioral neuroscientists are concerned with brain-behavior relations, evolution and other biological processes. Developmental psychologists examine change and continuity across the lifespan. Social psychologists seek to understand the relationship of individuals to one another and to groups. Personality and clinical psychologists focus on individual patterns of behavior and interventions to understand or alter behavior. Psychology majors go on to become psychologists, social workers, teachers, business managers, and human resource specialists.
At the University of Massachusetts Boston, undergraduates who are Psychology majors can earn either a Bachelor of Arts (BA) or a Bachelor of Science (BS).
