Astrophysics is the branch of Astronomy that deals with the physics of space. Coursework for an Astrophysics major includes the study of the physical properties of space objects as well as their interactions. The major includes core disciplines from physics. The BA in Astrophysics provides a traditional liberal arts education with a solid set of core courses in astrophysics. Available courses include:

  • Classical Mechanics
  • Electricity and Magnetism
  • Modern Cosmology
  • Quantum Mechanics
  • Mathematical & Computational Physics
The Baylor Research and Innovation Collaborative (BRIC) is a research park located near campus and is a tremendous resource for our undergraduate students. The BRIC provides researchers, industry/business clients, and area institutions and organizations with more than 300,000 square feet of space designed and appointed for: laboratories, prototyping and testing, offices and workspace, and workforce training. Many math and science undergraduate students are able to have hands-on experiences in this facility.

Baylor also offers several resources for astrophysics students. The Center for Astrophysics, Space Physics, and Engineering Research (CASPER) is located in the BRIC. CASPER consists of six independent research groups in both theoretical and experimental physics and allows undergraduates access to state of the art research that's happening.

Graduates of the Astrophysics program often further their studies in astrophysics, astronomy, or physics through graduate school. Others find career opportunities through teaching, government agencies, research firms, and observatories.

  • Minimum Level of Education Required: Grade 12 / High School
  • Min GPA: 77.0% 
  • English Proficiency Requirements:
    For direct admission, applicant must be from an English speaking country or meet either of the following English test scores:
    • Min TOEFL iBT: 80
    • Min IELTS overall: 6.5
    • Min Duolingo English Test Score: 110
    • Min PTE overall: 60
