The Bachelor of Performance and Theatre at UOW is a highly practical course that will prepare students for a career in the performing arts and broader creative industries. Students will learn the techniques, strategies and processes of contemporary theatre-making and performance in a range of contexts.

Complementing the practical aspects of their degree, students will undertake core subjects in the history and theory of theatre, as well as core subjects including professional practice. Students will also have the opportunity to undertake electives or a minor study in associated areas such as stage management and sound and lighting design, as well as creative writing, audio production or media arts among others. All students participate in producing and performing in their own productions throughout their degree, thereby gaining industry-relevant experience.

Studying the Theatre Making major will help students explore the many possibilities of creating theatre for diverse audiences in both regional and urban settings. It considers all the elements of theatre-making (stage-craft, dramaturgy, stage management and performance-making) in order to communicate content, atmosphere and impact. Students will also receive an introduction to lighting and sound design, and discover how theory and history will shape their development as an informed, professional and self-reliant practitioner.

In addition to a major in Acting or Theatre Making, students can add a minor in another study area that will bring a multi-disciplinary aspect to their degree. Options include music, photography, creative writing, graphic design, media arts and visual arts.

    For direct admission, applicant must be from an English speaking country or meet either of the following English test scores:
    • Min TOEFL iBT: 70 (Min Listening: 12.0, Min Reading: 18.0, Min Speaking: 12.0, Min Writing: 18.0)
    • Min IELTS overall: 6 (Min Listening: 5.0, Min Reading: 6.0, Min Speaking: 5.0, Min Writing: 6.0)
    • Min Duolingo English Test Score: 95
    • Min PTE overall: 54 (Min Listening: 42, Min Reading: 54, Min Speaking: 42, Min Writing: 54)
    For conditional admission, you are required to provide English proficiency scores:
    • Min TOEFL iBT: 32
    • Min IELTS overall: 4.5 (Min Reading: 4, Min Writing: 4)
    • Min Duolingo English Test Score: 65
