If you have the academic ability to apply directly to your degree program and you do not need additional English support, the Direct Master’s Accelerator Program (Direct MAP) is the ideal route of entry into University of South Carolina. It is designed to meet the needs of the highest-achieving, bilingual students.
Through Direct MAP, you will be fully enrolled in your degree-course schedule alongside your fellow domestic students. Students continue into their second semester with 9 degree credits.

With a Master of Engineering in Civil Engineering, graduates will:
- Be able to demonstrate expertise in a core subject area of civil and environmental engineering. Core subject areas of study include Environmental Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Transportation Engineering, and Water Resources Engineering.
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of various areas of civil and environmental engineering (including Environmental Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Transportation Engineering, and Water Resource Engineering) and related fields, including other engineering disciplines, the sciences, and mathematics.
- Be able to describe and discuss advances of knowledge in civil and environmental engineering.
- Demonstrate the basic skills (e.g., leadership, presentation, time managements, problem solving, study, and organizing) required for life-long learning and professional development.
Students have the option of either a Master of Engineering or Master of Science degree. Pursing a Master of Science degree requires completing a thesis.
