Queen’s Bachelor of Education (Concurrent) prepares secondary school graduates to become educators and qualify for Ontario College of Teachers certification.

Overview:

  • Two degrees at the same time: Bachelor’s in Arts and a Bachelor of Education.
  • 5 years plus one term, with education courses and experiences in educational settings completed in years 1-2 with an in-school placement in year 3. Students complete an additional summer term in year 5 (ending in August). Queen's graduates are out into the job market one year early.
  • For both Primary-Junior (JK-Grade 6) and Intermediate-Senior (Grades 7-12) (decided by students at the end of year 1).
  • Students will choose a concentration in Year 5, such as Teaching At-Risk Children or Adolescents, International Education, Exceptional Learners, Arts in Education, Drama in Society, Assessment and Evaluation, etc. Students may instead choose to apply to a Program Track. The Program Tracks are Aboriginal Teacher Education, Artist in Community Education, and Outdoor Experiential Education.

Bachelor of Arts (Honours) - Sociology

Sociologists investigate how societies work. They study social life at every level, from personal relationships to the functioning of institutions and nations, right up to global interconnections. The Sociology department is widely known for its strengths in criminology and the law, media (informational and surveillance), and social justice. Studying Sociology at Queen’s will help students understand the structures and dynamics of societies and the complex effects they have on human behaviour, public issues, everyday life, politics, and culture. It examines how various social forces produce social order and social change and in so doing influence what we do and how we think.

With courses as diverse as Surveillance and Visibility to the Sociology of Crime and Delinquency to Consumer Culture, the Sociology department is reputed for its emphases in Criminology and the Law, Media, Information and Surveillance, and Inequalities and Social Justice.
