The English Language Preparation program is a chance to improve your English language skills before beginning your pathway program. Applicants who obtain Academic IELTS for UKVI 5.0 overall (5.0 in all subskills including listening), will study the 1-Semester Pathway programme. Applicants who do not meet the 1-Semester Pathway programme IELTS requirements will be placed in the 2-Semester Pathway English language preparation course, so long as they have an overall IELTS score of 4.5 (4.5 in all subskills). Once the applicant completes the course, they may start the international year one.

This program consists of a pathway program offered by StudyGroup at the International Study Centre at the University of Sussex followed by entry into a university program offered at the University of Sussex. In the International Year One programme, you will study courses related to your intended field of study alongside English to develop and enhance your skills as a student. Advancement into your intended program depends upon the successful completion of the pathway program.

International Year One in Film and Media is the first step in your journey to a variety of Film and Media degrees at the University of Sussex. English language and career skills are combined with subject-specific modules such as cultural studies, media industries, media practice and media texts, to provide you with a strong foundation for your chosen Film and Media degree.

In the Bachelor of Arts in Film Studies, explore film as an art form and as an industry.

You’ll develop the skills to understand how cinema entertains, informs and influences its audiences. You could research Hollywood blockbusters, international art cinema, or contemporary television. You’ll encounter a wide range of cinema, from documentary and activist filmmaking to comedy, musicals and teen films.

Our specialist options allow you to investigate global film cultures; question representations of gender, race and sexuality; and analyse popular genres.

You’ll be able to find the films that interest you in our exclusive Resource Centre’s collection of over 5,000 films. And Brighton is the perfect place to study film. The city hosts several festivals every year, showcasing the latest cinema from around the world.
