Brunel’s Advanced Mechanical Engineering MSc degree allows studnets to specialise in one of two streams, thermofluids or solid body mechanics, and will give them the thorough learning experience they need to take their career in these areas to the next level.

This advanced course will help students to develop the versatility and depth to deal with complex challenges in fluid or solid engineering faced by senior engineers. It will provide them with the advanced knowledge and understanding to apply their scientific skills to solve problems and design machines that help us enjoy a better lifestyle.

Students will have access to Brunel's well-equipped laboratories with dedicated areas for fluid mechanics, internal combustion engines, vibrations and structural testing, and will use their high-tech computing facilities for simulation and modelling of fluid and solid research.

This advanced mechanical engineering course is accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) and is studied full-time over one year.

Admission Requirements

  • Minimum Level of Education Required: 4-Year Bachelor's Degree
  • Min GPA: 70.0% 
  • English Proficiency Requirements:
    For direct admission, applicant must be from an English speaking country or meet either of the following English test scores:
    • Min TOEFL iBT: 79 (Min Listening: 17.0, Min Reading: 18.0, Min Speaking: 20.0, Min Writing: 17.0)
    • Min IELTS overall: 6 (Min Listening: 5.5, Min Reading: 5.5, Min Speaking: 5.5, Min Writing: 5.5)
    • Min Duolingo English Test Score: 100
    • Min PTE overall: 51 (Min Listening: 51, Min Reading: 51, Min Speaking: 51, Min Writing: 51)
    Applicants interested in applying for direct admission, but are yet to complete an acceptable language test, can do so, but must provide valid results before receiving a final offer letter.
    For conditional admission, you are required to provide English proficiency scores:
    • Min IELTS overall: 4 (Min Listening: 4, Min Reading: 4, Min Speaking: 4, Min Writing: 4)
    • Min Duolingo English Test Score: 60
