Johns Hopkins Master of Science in Engineering (MSE) programs combine fundamental training with real-world experience. Students build their knowledge base with coursework in systems, mechanics, structures, computational methods, and uncertainty quantification. Students can apply that knowledge in an externship program while they network with professional engineers and gain valuable experience with their dream employer.


Upon completing the Master of Science in Engineering in Systems Engineering Program, students will be able to:


  • Apply technical knowledge in mathematics, science, and engineering to lead the realization and evaluation of complex systems and systems of systems.
  • Demonstrate the ability to conceive of, gather user needs and requirements for, design, develop, integrate, and test complex systems by employing systems engineering thinking and processes within required operational and acquisition system environments.
  • Understand and utilize the life cycle stages of systems development from concept development through manufacturing and operational maintenance.
  • Lead and participate in interdisciplinary teams to manage the cost-effective systems.
  • Communicate complex concepts and methods in spoken and written format.
  • Demonstrate awareness and capability in employing tools and techniques in the systems engineering process.

  • Minimum Level of Education Required: 4-Year Bachelor's Degree
  • Min GPA: 77.0% 
  • English Proficiency Requirements:
    For direct admission, applicant must be from an English speaking country or meet either of the following English test scores:
    • Min TOEFL iBT: 100
    • Min IELTS overall: 7

  • Other test requirements: GRE Test required
