This course has an emphasis on developing professional skills and is delivered by a mix of academics with a practice background and practitioners working in industry. For students with appropriate experience, the programme will help generate greater understanding of their subject and becoming a competent practitioner who is able to influence health, safety and environmental improvement in the workplace. For those new to OH&S and working in organisations, it prepares students for appropriate entry level roles. Students will develop legal, technical and scientific knowledge to enable them to recognise, assess, and problem solve risks. Students will gain insight into health and safety in a variety of industries including agriculture, construction, transport, and manufacturing, and will be able to develop an organisation's safety and environmental policy, respond to accidents and improve their negotiation, advocacy, management, leadership, communication and teamwork skills.

All course tutors are practising consultants and have strong links with professional bodies, which ensures that students will be studying the latest developments and practices. Many are also active in research and students will be encouraged to undertake research which will be recognised within the industry.
