The Undergraduate UMass Boston Navitas GSSP is the first year of a bachelor’s degree program at UMass Boston. The Navitas GSSP consists of for-credit coursework and provides an academic and cultural bridge from the high school experience to studying at a university in the United States. When students successfully complete the UMass Boston Navitas GSSP, they will progress directly into the second year of their undergraduate degree program.
As part of the Department of Performing Arts, the Theatre Arts Program explores diverse forms including the classics, contemporary drama, comedy, film, and musical theatre. Studies include training in acting; scenic, costume, and lighting design; directing; theatre history; and playwriting. The Theatre Arts major is for active participants who are ready to apply theory to practice via live performance, production work, undergraduate research, and theatre conferences.
Upon graduation, students will be able to demonstrate:
- The ability to read closely, to think critically, to speak eloquently, and to write effectively.
- Advanced skills in one or more areas of theatre arts concentration.
- A wide range of skills practiced in theatre arts, including acting, design technology, stage management, and dramaturgy.
- The ability to follow best practices during production, including rehearsals and performances.
- The ability to work collaboratively and collectively.
